Commercial Refrigeration, Domestic refrigeration The Fridge Factory

Environmentally friendly hydrocarbon technology handled safely in a developing country environment

The Fridge Factory, which used to be called Palfridge, was the first refrigeration manufacturer in the sub-Saharan region to convert their production lines to the use of natural refrigerants. With support of the GIZ Proklima, the entire production of domestic and commercial refrigeration appliances was converted to hydrocarbon refrigerants between 2008 and 2011.

Watch the movie about the conversion project.

In 2012 the factory converted its foam blowing agent from the ozone depleting HCFC -141b to cyclopentane which has no ODP and a low GWP.

Best practices:

  • Product: Energy efficient fridge-freezer combination TS 180

The Fridge Factory’s energy efficient fridge-freezer combination TS 180 is perfectly suitable for households in the temperate zone (16-32°C). The upright fridge-freezer combination consists of a 118L fridge on the bottom and a 58L freezer on the top. It uses the natural refrigerant R600a.

  • Success story: The Fridge Factory conversion project

With the support of GIZ Proklima, in 2008 the Fridge Factory was the first refrigeration manufacturer in the sub-Saharan region to convert its production line to natural refrigerant-based technologies.

  • Stand-alone equipment Product: Beverage cooler EM1140

The Fridge Factory’s upright beverage cooler EM1140 has 8 shelves with a storage capacity of up to 670 330ml cans. It is made for tropical climates between 10 and 32°C, and operates on propane (R290).
