Minimum energy performance standards

Examples of minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) for air conditioners come from Ghana, where they were introduced as early as 2005 and from India, where MEPS came into effect in 2010.

The following countries have introduced MEPS: Albania, Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, European Union, Ghana, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, USA, and Vietnam.

MEPS range from 2.5 in the Philippines or 2.8 in India to above 5 in Japan.

Countries that are planning to introduce MEPS: Bolivia, Colombia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Senegal, Serbia, and Ukraine.
