Green Room Air Conditioning (GRACe)

Commissioned by: German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) within the International Climate Initiative (IKI)
Partner countries: Bangladesh, Kenya
Pilot countries: Uganda, Tanzania, Grenada, Philippines, NN, (NN)
Objective
The project promotes the introduction and dissemination of climate and environmentally friendly and energy efficient room ACs (Green ACs) in Bangladesh and Kenya and other countries for pilot activities. It also addresses end-of-life management and strengthens the competence of private and public key actors. Additionally, the project aims to establish sustainable supply chains for both, an AC market that focuses on import (Kenya) and one that manufactures locally (Bangladesh).
Furthermore, the project improves international and national framework conditions, and supports the exchange of experience at international level for replication in other countries. It contributes to tapping the significant GHG reduction potential (up to 128 GtCO2eq. until 2100) in the AC sub-sector to support the targets of the Paris Agreement and the Kigali Amendment.
