MiemberoPerspectives Climate Group
Perspectives is an independent group of highly qualified consultants and researchers providing the private sector, governments and non-governmental organisations (NGO) with practical solutions for domestic and international climate policies, climate finance, and international greenhouse gas markets. Perspectives is internationally recognized for its outstanding contribution to establishing and advancing the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), including the successful design of UNFCCC-approved baseline and monitoring methodologies and the management of complex Programmes of Activities (PoAs). In addition, Perspectives has been leading the development of pioneering approaches for Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) in many countries and sectors around the world – both on the conceptual as well as on the practical level. We strive for environmental integrity and effectiveness of climate policy interventions. Building on experiences accumulated over decades, Perspectives’ team is applying its technical and political expertise to support governments in the update and implementation of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) under the Paris Agreement. Our deep knowledge of numerous economic sectors at various stages of development and their potential mitigation contributions as well as our analytical work on national mitigation targets lends itself perfectly to develop the mitigation strategies underpinning NDCs. We support the development of Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) procedures for mitigation and adaptation, including assessment of sustainable development co-benefits. We strive for environmental integrity and effectiveness of any climate policy, climate finance and adaptation, and are contributing to the evolution of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and other international climate finance providers through policy advice and funding proposal development. Throughout the eventful history of international climate policy, Perspectives has provided first-rate advice on the latest policy innovations – and we are at your disposal for designing the innovations of the future. …
2021Buenas prácticasSaving 26.5% energy on HVAC Chiller system at the French Embassy in Thailand
The Embassy of France in Bangkok participated in the 2018 France Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Green Embassy contest with its project to reduce energy consumption related to air conditioning. Installing CONTINEWM® Nets have contributed to save 26.5% of electricity consumption of the airconditioning (Chiller system) of the entire building and succeeded to place the project in the TOP 5 in the Green Embassy worldwide contest. The project consists in equipping the Air Conditioning system with the innovative CONTINEWM® Japanese technology from the French-Thai company Technic Electrical Engineering (Thailand) Co., Ltd. The reduction of the electricity consumption is equivalent to a validated reduction of 80 tons per year of CO2 emissions. The performance measurement was made by comparing the electricity consumption of chillers of the administrative building of the French Embassy WITHOUT and WITH CONTINEWM® Net under strictly same conditions and environment over a 3-month period under the control and validation of the Deputy Director of Buildings and Logistics, Deputy Director of Central Services and Logistics of the Ministry of Europe, Foreign Affairs and Development. These FIR emitting ceramic Nets optimize air conditioners and reduce energy consumption while improving the quality of the air by ionization. …
2021Buenas prácticasProject: Transition to climate-friendly refrigeration and air conditioning in Western Cape
Stemming from a successful bilateral relationship for over 20 years, the Governments of Bavaria and the Western Cape started a partnership project on the “transition to climate-friendly refrigeration and air conditioning” in 2017. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is the implementing partner of the project, facilitating the transfer of best practice and technology between Bavaria and Western Cape. From 2018 to 2020, nine selected South African experts participated in a two-week Cool Training Course in Maintal, Germany, where they learned how the adoption of climate-friendly cooling appliances is viable both from an economical and technical perspective. In 2019, the Department of Environmental Affairs & Developmental Planning (DEA&DP), Western Cape Government, together with the Bavarian Environment Agency (LfU), hosted a two-day technical workshop in Stellenbosch on the transitioning to green cooling solutions. The result of the successful workshop was the development of a RAC Pilot Project. The West Coast College was selected as the first Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college in the Western Cape, to train refrigeration and air-conditioning artisans on the use of natural refrigerant gases, in particular with hydrocarbons. With a financial contribution made by the Green Cooling Initiative of GIZ Proklima for the training equipment, as well as the provision of the RAC Training Modules for hydrocarbons, the pilot project is planned to be implemented by September 2021. …

2021Buenas prácticasProduct: FXP compact chillers
The FXP series comprises 3 power sizes of extremely compact water-cooled chillers, which are intended for modular arrangement. The modules are particularly suitable for retrofit applications, when the installation allows only very limited unit dimensions. The individual modules have a cooling capacity of up to 45 kW and cover outlet temperatures from +20 to -15°C. As a rule, several modules are always installed in a hydraulic network. This results in excellent reliability and very good controllability of partial loads. If desired, the individual modules can be controlled separately or via a central control system. …
MiemberoCool Up: Upscaling Sustainable Cooling
The Cool Up: Upscaling Sustainable Cooling programme promotes accelerated technological change in cooling demand reduction, and early implementation of the Kigali Amendment and Paris Agreement. Cool Up focuses on Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey as these countries are experiencing fast-growing demand for cooling, increasing final energy consumption, and structural challenges in the energy sector. They also have high potential to boost energy efficiency and increase the use of natural refrigerants in the cooling and refrigeration sector. The goal of the Cool Up programme is to create catalytic change within the refrigeration and air conditioning sector by reducing cooling demand, supporting the phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons, replacing and safely disposing inefficient cooling appliances and refrigerants, and improving cooling appliance operation, training, and awareness. Cool Up’s holistic approach addresses these issues across three themes: policy and regulatory support, development of business and financing models, and increased awareness and market uptake of sustainable cooling technologies. The approach is supplemented by implementation-focused partnerships and building hands-on capacity to enable local and regional stakeholders. Cool Up is led by Guidehouse Germany GmbH. The team includes Frankfurt School, ILK Dresden, Öko-Recherche, United Nations Development Programme, Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Istanbul Aydin University, Integrated Development Group, Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation, and Royal Scientific Society. Cool Up is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI). The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) supports this initiative on the basis of a decision adopted by the German Bundestag. …

2021Buenas prácticasPrototype and Test
When you have a new idea or want to improve system performance, first use simulation to evaluate if the idea will work. When design results are promising, take the concept to the lab for initial prototyping and testing. Such work can help inform proper component selection, controls settings, and system integration considerations. …
2021Buenas prácticasDesign Optimization
Many times we find that products are designed to meet quick timelines, rushing to achieve the best performance possible in as short an engineering cycle as can be obtained. This often leads to a "trial and error" approach. Mathematically rigorous optimization can find a LOT of room for improvement - and doesn't have to be time consuming or delay product development cycles. Leveraging the right approach and software can make a big difference in achieving greater product performance. …
