MiemberoEuropean Energy Centre (EEC)
Trainings for renewable energy experts. The European Energy Centre (EEC) supports the best practice in Renewable Energy by working with leading universities and the United Nations (UNEP), through professional Training Courses, Qualifications, Conferences, Publications, European Projects, Global Partnerships, Membership Programmes and the Internationally Recognised Galileo Master Certificate. The EEC has been running training courses since 1975 and has a wealth of experience providing courses for the Renewable Energy Industry. The professional Renewable Energy training courses are organised in collaboration with leading European and International Universities. Participants benefit from practical and theoretical knowledge on a wide range of topics, taught by University professors and leading experts in their field, with more than 30 years of theoretical and practical experience. The EEC is an Independent Professional Body and trains over 5000 individuals a year in more than 300 training courses at 21 universities across Europe and worldwide. …

2020Buenas prácticasPolicymaking: The Natural Voice- A global call to reduce greenhouse gases by natural refrigerants
Introduced by Shecco in 2009, the Natural Voice is a global statement open to industry, associations, non-profit organizations and individuals supporting the potential of natural refrigerants in replacing potent greenhouse gases. At present, the Natural Voice has 109 signatories from a range of sectors and industries. The statement will be presented to national governments and international climate negotiators in the near future to build the basis for developing natural refrigerant initiatives around the world. The Natural Voice demands national governments to remove (inter)national trade barriers and to revise safety standards, codes and legislation that restrict the use of natural refrigerants without merit. Furthermore, it calls upon national governments to provide (non-) financial support for the research and promotion of natural refrigerants, and to facilitate the technology transfer from developed to developing countries. …
2020Buenas prácticasLiterature: Chilling Facts
The seventh edition of the Environmental Investigation Agency’s (EIAs) Chilling Facts demonstrates that the uptake of HFC-free technology is rapidly advancing in the EU, especially in Eastern and Southern member countries. Since 2008, EIA has been conducting surveys on the use of natural refrigerants in various EU supermarket chains. Annual reports document the market-shift towards climate-friendly refrigerants among some of the world’s leading retailers, as well as warning slow adopters of possible financial problems. In the lastest edition of Chilling Facts, the EIA estimates that 9000 CO2 transcritical systems are in use EU-wide. 6000 additional systems are expected yearly as the EU F-gas phase down progresses. Moreover, innovative CO2 transcritical systems with parallel compression and ejector technology will enable the use of CO2 systems in warm countries. …
MiemberoEnvironmental Investigation Agency (EIA)
Campaigning for HFC phase-out The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is an independent non-governmental campaigning organisation committed to bringing about change to protect the natural world from environmental crime and abuse. EIA campaigns include illegal wildlife trade, illegal logging and illegal trade in ozone-depleting substances. EIA is actively calling for an HFC phase-out, campaigning at national, European and global levels. …
2020Buenas prácticasPolicymaking: Improving safety standards for natural refrigerants
Upon request of the European Commission to help draft the F-Gas Standardization Request, ECOS actively raises awareness of the large obstacles to the use of low-GWP refrigerants within the same standards permitting large quantities of climate damaging HFCs. In realizing that urgent changes’ in standards are necessary to ‘achieve the EU phase-down targets’, ECOS is engaging with all relevant stakeholders in order to promote the market introduction of natural refrigerants. Whilst interest in the use of natural refrigerants in commercial & industrial RAC appliances is growing, market and product development is obstructed by the charge size limits given in product safety standards. …
MiemberoECOS – Environmental Coalition on Standards
A non-profit organisation for environmental standards within the EU ECOS is a non-profit organisation working to ensure that standards, product ecological policies and labelling schemes reflect the societal perspective and take into account the environmental interests. ECOS’ work aims to combat climate change, foster energy and resource efficiency and protect environmental health. By fighting for environmental concerns to be included in standards, ECOS has contributed to improve the environmental performance of products during their whole life-cycle, warrant sound measurement methods for pollutants and energy-savings and ensure the provision of clear information to consumers towards sustainable consumption. …
2020Buenas prácticasProduct: CIRCE Biomass Trigeneration
Direct fired biomass absorption cooling unit Biomass trigeneration allows for combined cooling, heating and power generation. Using solid biofuels on a small scale decentralizes biomass consumption and decreases logistical issues. An environmentally-friendly option for buildings where the heating needs are higher than the cooling demand. …

2020Buenas prácticasProject: SuperSmart: EU-wide energy efficient and climate-friendly supermarkets
SuperSmart is an EU-wide project advancing the use of more energy efficient refrigeration, heating and cooling appliances in Europe’s supermarkets by addressing all stakeholders involved in driving the uptake of more climate-friendly food retail stores. SuperSmart has 3 main objectives: to remove non-technological barriers to efficient heating & cooling in the EU food retails sector, training to raise the expertise level for energy-friendly supermarkets among (non-) technical staff, and to support the introduction of a new EU Ecolabel for food retails stores. The project is funded by the EU under the Horizon 220 Innovation Framework Programme. The consortium consists of 9 European partners from the fields of research, analysis, training, dissemination and network-building. …
MiemberoCIRCE - Research Centre for Energy Resources and Consumption
Transferring scientific and technical knowledge to the energy business sector CIRCE, founded with the support of the University of Zaragoza, creates and develops innovative solutions and knowledge in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Responding to the needs of national and international producers, CIRCE contributes to sustainable development. It is based in a Zero Emission Building with substantially lowered cooling needs compared to conventional buildings. …
2020Buenas prácticasTraining: Training programme for Iraqi refrigeration experts
Casale Monferrato, Italy, September 2016 – A group of Iraqi HVAC&R experts receive specialized training on the safe use natural refrigerants in domestic and commercial refrigeration. The training was hosted as a joint effort between Centro Studio Galileo and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and funded by the Multilateral Fund (MLF). During the week of theoretical and practical training, including field visits, the Iraqi experts gained the necessary skills and knowledge to support the introduction of hydrocarbon and low global warming potential refrigerants in the domestic and commercial refrigeration sectors. The training is part of Iraq’s national strategy for phasing out hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) while reducing dependency on high-GWP refrigerants. The participants were certified after successful completion of the course, such that they are now responsible for conducting training courses for local Iraqi engineers and technicians. Centro Studi Galileo and UNEP have worked together for over 10 years to build the capacity of technicians in developing countries and to support the introduction of local certification schemes for refrigeration technicians. …
