Since the beginning of 2018, the first nationwide hydrocarbon chillers are in operation to demonstrate the climate-friendly and energy-efficient use of this locally manufactured technology. The systems were designed by the Indonesian manufacturer AICOOL (abre en una nueva ventana) and the refrigerant produced by the state-owned gas and oil corporation PERTAMINA (abre en una nueva ventana). Currently the propane chillers provide cooling for two commercial buildings, two universities and one cold store serving research purposes. They were implemented within the framework of the Green Chillers NAMA (abre en una nueva ventana) project supported by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of Republic of Indonesia (MEMR (abre en una nueva ventana)) in cooperation with the GIZ.
