On 23 May 2023, a workshop was held in Ouagadougou to share the contribution of the "Refroidissement respectueux de l’ozone et du climat en Afrique de l’Ouest en Centrale (ROCA)" project to the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) in Burkina Faso.
The study was carried out by the HEAT consultancy and presented by Mr Antoine Azar. The opening ceremony was chaired by Mr Boukary KABORE, Director General of Environmental Preservation (DGPE).
The growing demand for electricity and the use of Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and Hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) refrigerants are increasing greenhouse gas emissions. This contributes to global warming. To reduce this increased energy consumption, minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) and energy efficiency labels are a palliative solution. These tools make it possible to regulate the entry of products onto the market by defining the minimum level of energy efficiency of these products on the one hand; and on the other, to inform consumers of the potential energy savings and environmental benefits of choosing more efficient products.
