The Climate Change Management Department and the National Ozone Office

The Climate Change Management Department in The Ministry for Environment, Water & Climate is mandated with promoting best practices in climate change adaptation and mitigation strategies to enhance the country’s response and capacity to manage the impacts of climate change. It supervises development of Zimbabwe’s Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) and the Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) strategy.

The National Ozone Office in the Climate Change Management Department is tasked with the coordination, training and awareness rising on ozone depleting substances. Zimbabwe has managed to meet the 2010 deadline for total phase out of the use of Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) in refrigeration and significantly reduced in the use of Methyl Bromide ahead of the 2015 Montreal protocol deadline.
