GHG Inventory for the RAC Sector in Grenada

05/2020 , Publication - Inventories & Cooling Strategies :

In recent years, Grenada’s RAC sector has experienced significant growth that is driven by the country’s steady economic growth, moderate population growth and the rise in temperatures caused by climate change.

  • Switching to Green Cooling could save up to 22% of total GHG emissions in Grenada by 2050.
  • In 2015, the RAC sector was responsible for 122 kt CO2eq of GHG emissions from refrigerant loss and energy consumption. This means that the RAC sector accounts for approximately 29% of Grenada’s total GHG emissions, which amounted to 406.6 kt CO2-eq in 2014.
  • According to the current temperature trend in Grenada (increase of 0.7 to 2.6°C by 2060), the need for air conditioning and refrigeration increases. Due to the increasing use of RAC appliances, the resulting annual emissions of the sector are expected to rise to 263 kt CO2eq in the year 2050.
