La demande croissante d'électricité a plusieurs implications, principalement des pénuries d'électricité plus fréquentes car la production ne répond pas à la demande accrue. Cela entraîne d'importants investissements dans des centrales électriques supplémentaires. Cette production supplémentaire d'électricité augmentera les émissions de CO2, contribuant ainsi à la crise climatique. Cette demande pourrait être réduite si l'énergie était utilisée plus efficacement.
