Green Cooling Africa Initiative (GCAI) successfully completed in Namibia and Mauritius

The GCAI is in its final stages in Namibia and Mauritius. With the development of policy and technology roadmaps, the African frontrunner countries can effectively include the mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the RAC sector in their national climate strategies.

The GCAI, financed under the Climate Technology Centre & Network (CTCN (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre)) for Mauritius and Namibia and the IKI of the BMUB for Kenya and Ghana, represents a regional initiative aimed at preparing its partner countries for an early transfer to climate friendly cooling technologies.

With a complete, state-of-the-art inventory and a technology gap analysis of the RAC sector, Namibia and Mauritius now have the foundation to transition to a sustainable, green cooling equipment base. An integration of the findings in their respective nationally determined contributions (NDSs) are currently being discussed.
