New project promotes sustainable and climate-friendly phase out of Ozone Depleting Substances (SPODS)

01/04/2018 , Actualité :

SPODS – a new the project, co-financed by the European Commission and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) – has been launched earlier this year in Paris. The project aims at assisting selected Latin American and Caribbean countries with their political transformation processes in fulfilling their obligation under the Montreal Protocol related to HFC mitigation.

SPODS will be implemented in Mexico, Cuba, Costa Rica, Colombia, Grenada, Venezuela and Paraguay. As a result, the involved countries will be able to develop a clear understanding on how the cooling sector contributes to their national energy consumption and total GHG emissions, where appropriate policy measures are required and how potential project ideas can be made bankable.

As the implementing agency, GIZ Proklima will be supported via grants by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre)) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre)). These will use policy and technical instruments to achieve the project objective.
