Sixteen RAC skills trade trainers from twelve Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) across India have successfully completed a two-week Training of Trainers (ToT) programme in Maintal, Germany.
Held at the Bundesfachschule für Kälte-Klima-Technik (BFS), the programme empowered faculty members from these training institutes with the expertise to deliver high-quality technician training on cooling technologies using natural refrigerants. The participants are now familiar with the state-of-the-art tools and training benches that various ITIs and NSTIs throughout the country will receive. The programme is thereby supporting the sustainable phase-out of ozone-depleting substances and contributing to the upskilling of the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) servicing sector, providing the Indian workforce with skills needed for tomorrow’s job market.
Participants engaged in both theory and hands-on sessions, learning advanced techniques for connecting and installing copper refrigerant circuit pipes, as well as the safe use of propane (R290) as a natural refrigerant.
The ToT initiative is part of the ongoing activities under Stage II of the Hydrochlorofluorocarbon Phase-out Management Plan (HPMP), organized by GIZ Proklima in collaboration with the National Ozone Unit, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship under the framework of the Montreal Protocol.
