Insights from Costa Rica & South Africa and the GIZ Greener Reefers project

96% of the current maritime cooling containers are using R134a as refrigerant, which is damaging to both climate and environment. This HFC is also the very commonly used as refrigerant for cars and trucks, but subject to the phase-down under the Kigali Amendment. This session will discuss and demonstrate technological alternatives using natural refrigerants based on experiences from the Greener Reefers project in Costa Rica and South Africa and opens the floor for discussing the possibilities for the MAC sector.
