The Environmental Protection Agency of the Republic of Liberia is the principle authority for implementing the national environmental policy and sustainable management law for the protection of natural resources in Liberia. As a commitment to the environment, the Government of Liberia established the EPA in 2003 under the EPA Act. The Agency became a fully functioning entity in 2006 with a board of directors and Policy Council. As the lead government environment protection Agency, the EPA has been charged with the executive authority over all environmental activities and programmes relating to environmental management in Liberia. The EPA’s major areas of focus include the formulation of a national environmental policy, the drafting of a comprehensive framework for environmental protection and natural resources management law, and reporting on the current status of the environment in Liberia. Liberia is a country rich in natural resources, such as: iron ore, gold, diamonds and timber as well as a possible emerging oil sector. It is also home to one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems in the world. The EPA effectively monitor and manage the Liberian environment to prevent these precious resources from being overexploited, by implementing policy to ensure good governance and conservation. …

Ministry of Energy, Meteorology and Water Affairs - To improve the livelihood of Lesotho through effective application of the science of Meteorology and harmonization of their socio-economic activities with weather and climate History Lesotho Meteorological Services was created in 1974 as a division within the Department of Hydrology and Meteorological services. In 1988 when this department was upgraded to the present department of Water Affairs, LMS became a distinct 'Cost Centre' with its own budget but still within the department of Water Affairs. It was finally upgraded to the status of a fully-fledged department under the Ministry of Natural Resources on the 1st August 2000, which is now the Ministry of Energy, Meteorology and Water Affairs. Meteorological records in Lesotho go far back to 1889. The responsibility to collect meteorological data was shared by both the British administration and the South African authority. One of the first tasks undertaken by LMS when it was formed was to collect all the climate records of the country, thus LMS possesses a Climate Record of over 120 years. Goals To provide meteorological services that would contribute towards environmentally sound and sustainable socio-economic development of Lesotho. To carry out observations of the atmosphere and weather elements at the earth's surface and developing a sound data bank and archiving system to create the National Climate Record. As part of the Energy Division in Grenada's Ministry of Finance, the National Ozone Unit (NOU) is responsible for the political implementation of the commitments set out in the Montreal Protocol. The NOU's main task is to fulfil Grenada's obligations under the Montreal Protocol. This included the phase-out of chlorufluorocarbons (CFCs) in 2010, which was already achieved in 2006. Grenada is also on a promising path with regard to the phasing out of ozone depleting substances (ODS) such as hydrofluorcarbons (HFCs) regulated under the Kigali Amendment, for which it has repeatedly received much international recognition. This success is mainly due to the concrete measures implemented by the NOU, such as the training of refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) technicians in environmentally friendly technologies that protect the ozone layer, the introduction of a quota system to regulate the importation of ODS and a labelling standard for the safe use, handling and storage of ODS. …
