Refrigeration and air conditioning are responsible for a significant share of global greenhouse gas emissions. Especially in developing countries, the demand for cooling equipment is rising. Low efficiencies and high leakage rates of refrigerant gases with high global warming potential will increase these emissions drastically. The aim of the Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) is to establish a global network, which will accelerate the transfer of environmentally friendly technologies in the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors to and within developing countries. For GCI, green cooling means energy efficient technologies using natural refrigerants.
The GCI is funded by the International Climate Initiative by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
This website is a platform to establish a global network on green cooling. Decision makers from developing countries as well as technology suppliers and importers, research institutes and NGOs are all invited to join. The platform will provide sector-specific information for both, members of the private sector wishing to invest in a certain country and policy makers that are seeking to reduce emissions.
The aim is to give information on technologies, regulations, market trends, funding and emission reduction potentials – as much as possible on a country by country level.
Eligible are companies that manufacture at least one commercially available product or major component in one of the refrigeration and air conditioning sectors that uses only natural refrigerants and has above-average energy efficiency. Also eligible are suppliers of natural refrigerants as well as companies from developing countries that do not have their own product yet, but are interested in technology transfer and are willing to commit to advancing natural refrigerants and improving energy efficiency in their products.
Let us know why you are a front-runner!
The website will feature your green cooling product as a best practice example in its subsector category. As a member, the logo of your company will be displayed on
the website together with a short explanation of your commitment to green cooling. For future networking activities, you will name a contact person within your company. Initially, you provide us with some basic information on your green cooling product, such as refrigerant charge, energy efficiency and production volume. You can support the network further by providing technical data of your environmentally friendly products, their production volumes and markets. Of course, you do not have to share commercially sensitive information.
You can share information and promote your environmentally friendly products, connect with potential business partners, but also with relevant public institutions all over the world. You will be able to access information on key technologies, market trends, funding and cooperation opportunities, as well as regulations concerning air conditioning and refrigeration.
The website will feature technology and market information. We may use your company or product data in order to give a better overview of new technologies, benchmarks in energy efficiency and market trends. Your data will be added to the Green Cooling database and we will not publish or distribute it separately to a third party without your approval.
