The Green Cooling Initiative III project is excited to announce the launch of “Green Cooling Webinars” – a webinar series designed to share the latest research, publications, and best practices in sustainable cooling technologies with its global network.
This new webinar series will provide a platform for experts to present and discuss cutting-edge information, fostering knowledge exchange and driving the adoption of environmentally friendly cooling solutions. Each 60-minute webinar will focus on a specific, timely topic, featuring presentations from leading experts in the field. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a dedicated Q&A session, facilitating in-depth discussions and addressing individual queries.
Kick Off with “R290 - A Sustainable Cooling Revolution”
The inaugural webinar on 3 April 2025 will introduce the update of the R290 Resource Guide, a vital tool for understanding and using propane (R290) as a highly energy efficient and zero-global warming potential refrigerant. As global demand for air conditioning rises, split-type ACs contribute significantly to energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions stem from both the operation of the units, often powered by fossil fuels, and from the use of high-impact refrigerants. In this context, R290 (propane) presents a sustainable solution, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing emissions in the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump (RACHP) sectors.
This webinar will explore the role of R290 in driving the transition to greener cooling solutions. By introducing the updated R290 Resource Guide and sharing practical examples of its use in RAC equipment, this session will highlight the substantial potential of R290 in promoting sustainability and reducing GHG emissions in the RAC sector. We will also discuss the challenges to adopting R290, including safety concerns and technical barriers, and highlight the opportunities for accelerating its use. Join us to learn how R290 can support climate action plans and contribute to global sustainability goals.
Upcoming Webinar Topics
The series will continue with a diverse range of topics, including Green Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in the Hotel Sector, Solar Cooling and Leakage Control. "We are thrilled to launch this webinar series, which will serve as a crucial platform for disseminating our research and fostering collaboration within the Green Cooling Initiative network," said Ellen Michel, project manager of the Green Cooling Initiative. "By sharing knowledge and best practices, we aim to accelerate the transition to sustainable cooling solutions worldwide."
This webinar series addresses all members of the Green Cooling Network and is open to all who are interested in Green Cooling.

What is the Green Cooling Network?
The GCI Network is an alliance of key players in the refrigeration, air-conditioning & foam sector. It comprises government institutions, international organisations and the private sector. We are united on one goal: the transformation of the cooling sector – for the benefit of people, the environment, and our shared future. The GCI Network is part of the Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) III project which is funded by German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) under the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
