Namibian Training Centers Receive RAC Tools and Equipment

As part of the Cooling Programme for Southern Africa (CooPSA), GIZ and Namibian ministries have donated tools and equipment worth €83,700 to four vocational training centres. The initiative supports the transition to climate-friendly cooling with R290 refrigerant. Upcoming trainings and strategic partnerships aim to equip future RAC technicians with the skills needed for a sustainable shift.

GIZ, in collaboration with the Namibian Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT) and Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade (MIT), is implementing the Cooling Programme for Southern Africa (CooPSA). This initiative promotes the transition to environmentally friendly cooling technologies using R290 refrigerant.

Equipment Donations to Strengthen Vocational Training

Through CooPSA, tools and equipment valued at 83,700 EUR were donated to four vocational training centres: Gobabis Vocational Training Centre (GVTC), Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT), Valombola Vocational Training Centre (VVTC), and Windhoek Vocational Training Centre (WVTC).
The handover ceremony, officiated by the Executive Director of the MIT, took place on 24 March 2025 at WVTC. Polli Andima, Manager of WVTC, received the donations on behalf of all training centres and expressed deep gratitude, noting that the tools will be used effectively for training purposes.
The handover precedes training sessions at the centres, with the first scheduled at WVTC from 24–28 March 2025.

At the same event, the HVAC Association of Namibia received tools and equipment donated by the Climate and Ozone Protection Alliance (COPA) to enhance skills in refrigerant recovery. Duane Gentz, Vice-President of the HVAC Association, welcomed the support from CooPSA and COPA, emphasizing its importance for preparing RAC technicians and trainers for the sector’s transition.
