17.04.2025 News Mali: Handover of R290 ACs
“Air conditioning is necessary. It's not a luxury in Mali”, says Mme Doumbia, refrigeration technician. For making sure that it cools down rooms and goods without heating up our climate, it is necessary to transition to natural refrigerants. The ROCA project shows that future-friendly technologies are available and functional. We have handed over several hundred room air conditioners with propane (R290) to our partners in Mali, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, and Senegal. The installations are ongoing.

09.04.2025 News India: RAC technicians of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation trained on Good Servicing Practices under HPMP Stage II India
In February 2025, GIZ Proklima trained 70 refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) technicians from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The training was conducted under the HCFC Phase-out Management Plan (HPMP) Stage II in India. It focused on "Good Service Practices and Installation of Room Air conditioners with HCFC-22 and Flammable Refrigerants (R-290)." DMRC technicians gained valuable expertise in better RAC servicing techniques and effective measures on leakage prevention of refrigerants during servicing, installation and repair activities.

The National Institute for the Training of Education Personnel (INFPE) of Burkina Faso, in cooperation with the ROCA project, has developed a manual on refrigeration and air conditioning for the training of trainers.

Ghana is making significant strides in promoting energy-efficient and environmentally friendly air conditioning solutions. Key initiatives include establishing a comprehensive Qualification, Certification, and Registration (QCR) system for RAC technicians, distributing advanced RAC tools and equipment, and conducting extensive training programs. Awareness campaigns and stakeholder consultations further bolster the green cooling agenda, highlighting the environmental and ozone protection benefits.

04.12.2024 News GIZ Proklima Drives Sustainable Practices in India's RAC-Sector
GIZ Proklima in collaboration with the National Ozone Unit, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MOEFCC) Government of India, organised weeklong Training of Trainers (TOT) on “Good service practices and installation of room air conditioners with HCFC-22 and flammable refrigerants”. The TOT was conducted for master trainers/instructors of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) skills trade at (Government) Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Pusa, New Delhi, from Monday, 21st October 2024 to Friday, 25th October 2024. The event was attended by 24 RAC master trainers from government industrial training institutes across Delhi region.

The HPMP II program trained 17,000 RAC technicians across India, and an impact assessment revealed valuable insights about women in the sector.

On the occasion of the 37th commemoration of World Ozone Protection Day, the Ozone and Climate Friendly Cooling in West and Central Africa (ROCA) project officially handed over cooling materials and equipment to the Ouagadougou refrigerated abattoir on Friday, September 20, 2024.
