Solar cooling technologies are varied and include solar thermal cooling (absorption and adsorption), and solar electric cooling systems. Each technology has its unique advantages and applications, from residential to industrial uses, especially for cold chain applications. In this webinar the new Solar Cooling Publication was presented with many different examples and experiences from projects worldwide.

08/2025 PublicationCooling the Climate: 10 Years of C4 and the Road Ahead

The C4 project (Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change), funded by Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) and implemented by GIZ Proklima comes to an end and we look back at ten years of impact. It shifted cooling from a policy blind spot to a recognized climate solution – helping countries to measure, plan, and finance climate-friendly cooling.

07/2025 Publication - VideoR290 air conditioning technologies for a sustainable future

In Africa, the demand for refrigeration and air conditioning is skyrocketing. This growing need presents a major concern: increasing energy consumption and the widespread use of gases that are harmful to the climate and to our health.
Sénégal, Mali, Burkina Faso and Cameroon have joined forces with the European Union and Germany to implement sustainable solutions through the project: Ozone- and Climate-Friendly Cooling in West and Central Africa. In one word, ROCA.

In Burkina Faso, meat plays a central role in the diet. But without proper preservation, it can quickly become a health hazard. In response to these preservation problems, the various players involved in the meat cold chain in Ouagadougou have taken part in the ROCA project. Watch the video to learn more.

In the 🩺 healthcare sector, maintaining the ❄️ cold chain is of paramount importance.
