A new series of GIZ publications regarding ozone depleting substances (ODS) management

01/07/2017 , Actualité :

The inadequate disposal and accumulation of old, faulty air conditioners and refrigerators containing ozone depleting refrigerants and foam blowing agents poses a considerable threat to the environment. In recognizing this, GIZ Proklima has published a series of guidelines outlining the adequate management of ODS banks, together with a manual that demonstrates the appropriate dismantling of cooling appliances.

Most developing countries lack the necessary capacity to adequately manage ODS banks. In a global roadmap, GIZ Proklima introduces the overarching key processes required to establish good practices in ODS banks management and the core issues are treated in-depth and individually in four thematic guidelines. Additionally - together with the Colombian partner ministry - a guideline was published outlining the step-wise procedures for a climate-neutral disposal of cooling appliances, including dismantling and transport considerations.

All publications were developed within the scope of the global ODS Banks project, which is funded under the International Climate Initiative (IKI (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre)) of the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre)). All publications are available for download here (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre)
