Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change (C4) reaches Cuba!

01/04/2018 , Actualité :

In early March 2018, the National Ozone Unit of Cuba (OTOZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH held a kickoff workshop in Havana to initiate the project C4. It will support Cuba in formulating mitigation strategies in the cooling sector and thereby advancing its NDCs.

The workshop took place within the International Conference on Energy, Innovation and Climate Change 2018. Over 30 participants from different ministries, agencies, research institutes and universities attended the event and joined a discussion about the history and the vision of Cuba towards the use of natural refrigerants and the greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation potential of the refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) sector.

The next steps of the project will be defined within the next weeks. First ideas are the elaboration of an extensive inventory using the Tier 2 approach and the definition of priority sub sectors for subsequent policy recommendations, as well as capacity building and training for experts and technicians.

C4 is funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre)) within the International Climate Initiative (IKI (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre)) and implemented by GIZ Proklima (Ouvrira une nouvelle fenêtre).
