During its Global Programming Conference in August 2019 in Songdo, South Korea, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) highlighted the importance of climate action in the cooling sector.
Responding to the vastly growing cooling demand and related GHG emissions resulting from electricity use and refrigerants, the GCF plans to put forward an "area of concentration" specifically dedicated to Green cooling projects. This way, the Green Climate Fund could effectively complement to the HFC emissions reduction measures planned within the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol and its Multilateral Fund. Proklima's Philipp Munzinger presented ways to coordinate financing and configure projects accordingly.
