The Fridge Factory, which used to be called Palfridge, was the first refrigeration manufacturer in the sub-Saharan region to convert their production lines to the use of natural refrigerants. With support of the GIZ Proklima, the entire production of domestic and commercial refrigeration appliances was converted to hydrocarbon refrigerants between 2008 and 2011. In 2012 the factory converted its foam blowing agent from the ozone depleting HCFC -141b to cyclopentane which has no ODP and a low GWP.
