08/10/2024 Actualité Now available: Safety Standards for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in the Philippines
In implementing the projects Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change (C4) and C4II, the Philippines has unique expertise when it comes to safety standards in refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pumps (RACHP). A new report is now available that presents the Philippines' experience in adopting international RACHP safety standards as national standards.
01/10/2024 Actualité High GWP Refrigerants Face Soaring Prices as Natural Alternatives Offer Stability
Since March 11, 2024, the application of the EU F-gas regulation has set very ambitious targets in all sectors regarding the phase-out of HFCs (hydrofluorocarbons). As a result, prices of conventional refrigerants have increased steadily up to 1000% (see Figure 1) and higher from their initial prices of between 3 – 5 EUR/kg in 2014. In contrast, the prices of alternative refrigerants have remained stable since their levels in 2020, according to German environmental consulting firm Öko-Recherche.

15/08/2024 Actualité R290 Manufacturing in the Philippines
Wearing full personal protective equipment (PPE) to demonstrate its commitment to safety, members of the Technical Committee (TC) on Refrigeration and Air Conditioning tasked to update the ecolabel criteria for refrigerators and freezers and create a new criteria for room air conditioners. They visited Franke Foodservice Systems Philippines, Inc. in Lima Technology Center, Malvar, Batangas, Philippines to observe and confirm the control measures necessary to safely produce R290 refrigeration equipment for restaurant systems on 07 August 2024.

31/07/2024 Actualité Side Events at OEWG46 - Accelerating the transition to future friendly cooling
To break the vicious circle of rising temperatures, growing demand for cooling and constantly increasing greenhouse gas emissions from cooling, we need to switch to Green Cooling. Our first side event at the OEWG46 in Montreal provided insights into the interactions between suitable regulatory frameworks and market trends that are accelerating future friendly ACs and heat pumps usage in China and Europe. The second side event put spotlight on a sustainable refrigerant management to reduce greenhouse gas emissions as well as ozone-depleting substances from end-of-life cooling equipment.
31/07/2024 Actualité Training of trainers on Eco-friendly refrigerants in Bangladesh
With global temperatures rising, urbanization progressing, and economies growing, the demand for cooling solutions is increasing rapidly. Unfortunately, many of the current refrigerants harm the environment and significantly contribute to global temperature rise. In 2023, the refrigeration sector was responsible for an estimated ten to twelve percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. To combat this, the international community has committed in the Montreal Protocol to phase out ozone-depleting substances, which also have a high global warming potential, such as CFCs and HCFCs. In the Kigali Amendment, they have agreed on phasing-down climate damaging HFCs. In response to these challenges, a five-day training of trainers took place at the Bangladesh-Korea Technical Training Centre (BKTTC), Dhaka in May 2024.
31/07/2024 Actualité Theory, Practice and Networking - A Brazilian Cool Training
16 technicians and trainers in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector came to Maintal in Germany from Brazil. They participated in a two-weeks training and learnt how to handle natural refrigerants.
29/07/2024 Actualité National Ozone Units - Cool Training in Germany
One week of practical training and theoretical sessions lies behind a group of policy makers in the climate and ozone protection sector. They all participated in a training in Germany in June.
