In February 2025, GIZ Proklima trained 70 refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) technicians from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The training was conducted under the HCFC Phase-out Management Plan (HPMP) Stage II in India. It focused on "Good Service Practices and Installation of Room Air conditioners with HCFC-22 and Flammable Refrigerants (R-290)." DMRC technicians gained valuable expertise in better RAC servicing techniques and effective measures on leakage prevention of refrigerants during servicing, installation and repair activities.

The Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) III, which concluded in February 2025 in Uganda, marked a major success in transforming Uganda’s refrigeration and air-conditioning (RAC) sector by promoting sustainable practices that will have lasting environmental, climate  and economic benefits. The initiative, aimed at reducing the environmental and climate impact of the global RAC industry, not only met its objectives but also set a strong foundation for future green cooling solutions in Uganda.

GIZ Proklima and Thermo King are joining forces to revolutionize maritime refrigeration with the "Greener Reefer"—an innovative R290 refrigerated container designed for greater sustainability, safety, and efficiency. This partnership sets new standards for climate-friendly cooling technology in international shipping.

The shift towards sustainable refrigeration containers is gaining momentum, and last Wednesday, the second "Greener Reefers" Workshop in Hamburg brought together key stakeholders to accelerate this transition. The workshop served as a crucial step in strengthening this collaborative effort. Attendees included representatives from Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, Thermo King, Dole Europe GmbH, Carrier Transicold, Greensee, and Universitat Politècnica de València. Their expertise and commitment to sustainability set the stage for productive discussions and tangible next steps.

This year's summit on 20 and 21 May will focus on sustainable cooling and heating in buildings. Two days full of insightful keynotes, presentations, lively discussions and new impressions are awaiting. 

The National Institute for the Training of Education Personnel (INFPE) of Burkina Faso, in cooperation with the ROCA project, has developed a manual on refrigeration and air conditioning for the training of trainers.
