Venezuela has achieved a great deal by strengthening and developing technical and regulatory capabilities, as well as promoting natural alternatives in air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

In the framework of the project SPODS for Latin America and the Caribbean countries, Venezuela implemented five lines of action in order to strengthen and develop technical and regulatory capacities that have a positive impact on the environmentally safe management of hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerant gases:

  1. Development of a country strategy for HFC mitigation actions
  2. Assessment of the infrastructure needed for the national supply of low GWP refrigerants
  3. Development of a strategy for end-of-life treatment
  4. Technical training on the safe use of refrigerants
  5. Identification and promotion of large-scale pilot projects in RAC

National Program on Refrigeration Leak Prevention and Control in Venezuela

The project is based on the existing national refrigerant leak prevention program (Zero-Leak). It focuses on supermarkets and convenience stores since food retailers’ refrigeration systems are characterized by large refrigerant charge volume and potentially high
leak rates.
