Venezuela has achieved a great deal by strengthening and developing technical and regulatory capabilities, as well as promoting natural alternatives in air conditioning and refrigeration equipment.

In the framework of the project SPODS for Latin America and the Caribbean countries, Venezuela implemented five lines of action in order to strengthen and develop technical and regulatory capacities that have a positive impact on the environmentally safe management of hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerant gases:

  1. Development of a country strategy for HFC mitigation actions
  2. Assessment of the infrastructure needed for the national supply of low GWP refrigerants
  3. Development of a strategy for end-of-life treatment
  4. Technical training on the safe use of refrigerants
  5. Identification and promotion of large-scale pilot projects in RAC

National Program on Refrigeration Leak Prevention and Control in Venezuela

The project is based on the existing national refrigerant leak prevention program (Zero-Leak). It focuses on supermarkets and convenience stores since food retailers’ refrigeration systems are characterized by large refrigerant charge volume and potentially high
leak rates.

SPODS Aplicación de Refrigerantes Naturales en Venezuela

(opens enlarged image)

The flyer gives an overview of the application of natural refrigerants, particularly in Venezuela.

Particularly, hydrocarbons have been applied worldwide in domestic, commercial refrigeration and air conditioning considering that among their advantages are:

  • low cost
  • easy application
  • thermodynamic efficiency
  • lower energy consumption

SPODS Camino hacia la eliminación de las SAO y los HFC

This flyer gives an overview of Venezuela's road towards ODS phase-out and HFC reduction. In this context, Venezuela is pursuing sustainable, progressive and climate-friendly actions. The country established for example the programme "Fuga Cero".
