In January 2019, GIZ Proklima was invited to the Iranian Green Industry Ceremony in Tehran to hold a speech and to congratulate award winners for their environment friendly measures.
Furthermore, a kick-off workshop for the introduction of reusable cylinders was held to prevent the use of counterfeit refrigerants. During the Green Industry Ceremony members of the industry were honored for their environmental contributions in their factories. Together with Head of the Department of Environment (DOE), Dr. Kalantari, and his Deputy Dr. Tajrishi, the need for multilateral collaboration to tackle climate change was emphasized. At the same time, national contributions in order to comply with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) were highlighted.
One of the huge sources for greenhouse gas emissions in the Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning (RAC) sector are refrigerants in single-use cylinders which are discharged into the atmosphere. On 23rd of January, a workshop on the introduction of refillable cylinders with 42 participants was held. The current impact on Iran’s HCFC phase-out compliance and refrigeration quality improvement, the value chain of refrigerant cylinders as well as feasibility, design and manufacturing of re-usable refrigerant cylinders was presented and discussed. The introduction of refillable cylinders will enhance monitoring of HCFC consumption and the control of counterfeit refrigerants.
