The Federal Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt, UBA) is Germany’s central environmental authority.

The Federal Environment Agency was established in Berlin in 1974 and has had its headquarters in Dessau since May 2005.The Federal Environment Agency is a partner and point of contact in Germany for a number of international institutions, for instance the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Environment Agency.

The work of Division III revolves around environment and health protection in technology, production and consumption. The two departments explore different ways of designing production processes and technologies in a way that imposes minimum pressures on the environment and human health while at the same time increasing the competitiveness of German companies and creating jobs. The goal is to increase the acceptance and sales of environmentally compatible and healthy products. The services of Division III comprise, for example, the "Blue Angel" eco-label as well as working out solutions to specific problems in different branches of industry. The Division is also concerned with improving the safety of installations and with sustainable waste and waste water management.
