The event takes place virtually via MS Teams as part of the 33rd Meeting of the Parties (MOP33) to the Montreal Protocol 2021. It was organised by GIZ Proklima on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
The demand for cooling is increasing globally. Consequently, emissions from the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) sector will keep rising as well. The transition to Green Cooling technologies can decrease emissions significantly. However, the first round of NDCs in 2015, it became evident that many countries did not take into account the mitigation potential of the RAC sector. This is currently changing, and more countries are integrating the RAC sector into their NDC.
In this side event, experts will demonstrate the importance and potential of the RAC sector for more ambitious and enhanced NDCs and they will give an overview of the current status. Country examples will illustrate what the integration can look like in practice.
