In April, a delegation of manufacturers from Indonesia and Thailand visited the production site and training facilities from Godrej & Boyce in India to learn more about R290-split AC manufacturing, sales and servicing.
During the study trip, organized by GIZ Proklima, the group gained insights on establishing an extensive servicing network of technicians to install and repair mini-splits at the training centre in Mumbai. In its production site near Pune, Godrej presented the production line and especially the safety measures for manufacturing R290 units. Further, technical features of their latest models - ranging as the most efficient split AC models in the Indian market – have been presented and discussed.
Despite of having the best climate performance in its field of application, the global market uptake of R-290 split ACs is remaining at low scales due to concerns of the flammability properties of propane. Only proper treatment in the process of manufacturing, installing, operating and disposing appliances can ensure the safe handling of this climate-friendly and energy-efficient technology.
As one of a few, and with support from GIZ Proklima, the Indian split AC manufacturer Godrej & Boyce converted its split AC production line from HCFC (R-22) to HC (R-290) in 2013. Since then, Godrej & Boyce has sold more than 500.000 energy-efficient R-290 split ACs in the Indian market.
