On the occasion of the International Environment Fair of Bogotá (FIMA) and the Regional Meeting of the NOU of Latin America and the Caribbean in Guatemala, GIZ Proklima presented the results of the Colombian Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Banks Inventory.
Nearly 100 participants from the private and public sector as well as political representatives and instructors from training institutes took part in these events. As part of the BMU-project "Management and destruction of substances that deplete the ozone layer existing in the ODS Banks" financed via IKI, GIZ Proklima has conducted an ODS Bank Inventory analyzing the consumption of ozone-depleting substances, HFCs and alternative substances. Furthermore, the projet inspected the generated emissions of the RAC sector in 2015 and formulated a business-as-usual scenario and two different mitigation scenarios of the expected emissions until 2030.
These results are of great importance for Colombia because, based on them, the actions to be considered within the national management strategies for the ODS Banks will be formulated. With the implementation of these actions, the country will achieve a significant mitigation of the negative impact of refrigerant substances on the ozone layer and climate change, thanks to the reduction of ODS and HFC emissions in the RAC sector.
