Based on recently collected performance data of split-type air-condition (split ACs), the Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change (C4) project held two webinars on costs, energy and climate impact assessment of split ACs in Asia and Latin America in June and July. All together over 150 participants from government, private sector and the civil society took part in the two webinars and discussed the findings of the market study.
Split ACs have become the largest contributor to global energy consumption and GHG emissions in the RAC sector worldwide. Distinct information and sound knowledge of the national and international split AC markets are required, in order to develop policy frameworks that effectively improve energy efficiency of split ACs and lead to a transition to refrigerants with low global warming potential (GWP).
The webinar was based on the results of a recent assessment study on split ACs conducted by the C4 project, working with primary data from over 2.860 mini-splits across 68 local and international brands in nine partner countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and Asia. The C4 project is funded by the German BMU within the International Climate Initiative (IKI (opens in a new window)).
