Building local capacity for a green cooling transformation in Africa

Almost 20 RAC trainers from nine African countries participated in vocational education workshops at the Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Academy (ACRA) in South Africa in November and December 2018. The trainings were organized by GCI to support local technical expertise on environmentally friendly cooling technology.

Skilled technicians are a key factor for the introduction and diffusion of environmentally friendly cooling technologies. 13 trainers participated in a four-week course on basic and intermediate air-conditioning and refrigeration technology, whereas five trainers attended a one-week refrigeration safety course with an emphasis on natural refrigerants.  All trainers passed the courses and emphasized how helpful the training was for them. The success and feedback for the training reassures GIZ’s efforts to facilitate a green cooling transformation in Africa through building local technical capacity.
