GIZ Proklima organized a "Technology Roadshow on Natural Refrigerants" and the "1st Regional Meeting of the Green Cooling Initiative Network" in San José, Costa Rica, from March 25-28, 2019.
Around 50 participants of the Ozone Units and the private sector from 18 countries participated in this event focused on strengthening of the region as a group with a clear vision towards sustainable cooling solutions. The Ozone Officers attended a 2-day Training on negotiation skills using the Harvard method, where the necessity of a stronger voice of the region as a whole came into light in several situations. The private sector representatives and the Ozone Officers visited different RAC technology systems that use natural refrigerants, such as R290 Chillers and split ACs, R290 and NH3/CO2 industrial refrigeration systems, CO2 supermarket refrigeration systems, and others.
During the last day, we officially initiated the Regional Network of the Green Cooling Initiative (opens in a new window) for Latin America and the Caribbean. This space facilitated the exchange on green cooling technology and policy between experts and decision makers of the region.
The events were cofinanced by the Green Cooling Initiative II (financed by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety BMU (opens in a new window)), SPODS - Sustainable and climate friendly Phase-out of Ozone-Depleting Substances (co-financed by the European Commission (opens in a new window) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development BMZ (opens in a new window)), and 4E - Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency in Central America (also financed by BMZ (opens in a new window)).
