When we open the fridge or turn on the air conditioning, we hardly think of the refrigerants inside the appliances and their impact on our planet.
However, the cooling sector is 4 times more climate damaging than air traffic. This is why giz Proklima is promoting the use of natural refrigerants that neither harm the climate nor the environment, but possess the same or better energy efficiency. Endorsing natural refrigerants and energy-efficient cooling appliances in Iran has been their ambition for more than 20 years. Since the project start in 1998, the I.R. of Iran and giz Proklima have carried out a variety of activities in the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) and foam sector. Technology transfer and phasing out ozone depleting substances (ODS) are only two of them.
In September 2019, it was time to come together and celebrate this successful and long lasting partnership. Just in time with the World Ozone Day (opens in a new window), the key players of this project gathered at the official ceremony in the Iranian capital Tehran. Among the guests were representatives from the UN and the Iranian government such as the deputy chief of the Department of Environment (opens in a new window), Masoud Tajrishi, Proklima's program manager Bernhard Siegele and the German Ambassador, Michael Klor-Berchtold. Following the ceremony, the partners invited to a workshop on energy efficiency in the RAC sector.
