On 16 September, China celebrated twice: The World Ozone Day 2021 celebration and the 30th anniversary of China joining the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer took place in Beijing. Zhao Yingmin stressed that the implementation of the Kigali Amendment will play an important role in addressing climate change. Since the Kigali Amendment became effective in China from 15 September 2021, China will further improve laws, regulations and management, gradually phase-down controlled substances, research and formulate HFC management plans, support technological innovation in the industry, strengthen supervision and law enforcement, and deepen international cooperation.

The meeting was held partly online and in person. More than 200 Chinese and foreign guests from international and bilateral organisations, members of the National Leading Group for Ozone Layer Protection, relevant departments and offices of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, local environmental departments, scientific research institutes, industry associations, enterprise representatives and implementation expert groups attended the meeting. GIZ Proklima was also represented by several staff members during the celebrations.
