GIZ Proklima Side Event during MOP33 2021

The demand for cooling is increasing globally. Consequently, emissions from the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) sector will keep rising as well. The transition to Green Cooling technologies can decrease these emissions significantly. However, in the first round of NDCs in 2015 it became evident that many countries did not take into account the mitigation potential of the RAC sector. This is currently changing, and more countries are integrating the RAC sector into their NDCs.
In this side event, experts demonstrated the importance and potential of the RAC sector for more ambitious and enhanced NDCs and they gave an overview of the current status. Country examples illustrated what the integration can look like in practice.
