Ozone Day 2022: Ce­le­bra­ting Green Coo­ling around the world

This year, we celebrate 35 years of one of the most successful environmental treaties to date: The Montreal Protocol. That day marked an important milestone in environmental protection and that is why the World Ozone Day has been celebrated every September 16.

It is a day of unity to make a change and work for a world worth living. With Proklima we want to celebrate the same motive, so we have gathered the celebrations of our team, which is spread worldwide. Come and join our journey!

World Ozone Day 2022 Celebrations in Grenada

In the context of the World Ozone Day 2022 celebrations in Grenada, GIZ Proklima in collaboration with the National Ozone Unit (NOU) in Grenada organized a Kick-Off Workshop for the project Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change II (C4 II) and a handing-over ceremony of equipment and scholarships.

Iran celebrated the Ozone Day online!

On 14th of September, the commemoration of National Ozone Day this year was held virtually in Iran. The online ceremony was organized by Iran National Ozone Unit with more than 50 participants from different provinces of Iran including ozone cells, trainers from Technical Vocational Training Center, Department of Environment staffs and NOU colleagues.

The ceremony opened with congratulatory remarks by NOU Director Dr. Ebrahim Hajizadeh on the successful cooperation with the Montreal Protocol.  He showed his satisfaction with the cooperation and commitment to the agreement.

Furthermore, there were contributions from representatives of UNIDO, UNDP, Technical Vocational Training Center and finally GIZ.

Mr. Saadatfar on behalf of Mr. Siegele presented the activities of the Proklima project that have been carried out in the last two years. Challenges and opportunities that COVID-19 has brought to the project were discussed.


The Philippines ratifies the Kigali Amendments to the Montreal Protocol

On the last days of the Duterte administration on 23 June 2022, the Philippines ratified the Kigali Amendments to the Montreal Protocol. The announcement was made by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources on 15 September 2022 as part of the Philippine activities to celebrate World Ozone Day.

Colombia celebrates the Ozone Day with highschool students

For the celebration of the international day for the preservation of the ozone layer (UTO) organized activities in schools in different parts of Colombia to raise awareness among the youth.
Carolina Vélez from GIZ Proklima accompanied this activity at the Enrique Olaya Herrera Educational Institution, in Armenia, Quindío. There, the high school students rotated through different classrooms, where they had prepared games, tests and videos alluding to the protection of the ozone layer and the importance of protecting themselves against UV rays.
