30.01.2024 , News :

Do you need support in designing, implementing, or updating your Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) with ambitious targets and mitigation measures in the cooling sector? The newly established NDC helpdesk for the cooling sector is here to support you.

The helpdesk offers specialised support in various areas, including

  • NDC cooling sector integration and formulation of trackable mitigation targets
  • Development and implementation of National Cooling Action Plans
  • HFC emission calculation and reporting under the UNFCCC (Tier 1 and Tier 2)
  • Greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories in the cooling sector
  • Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems in the cooling sector
  • Any questions concerning our provided tools and guidelines.

Why enhance NDCs with Green Cooling?

The refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) sector is responsible for more than 7% of global GHG emissions – from refrigerant use (direct emissions) and the operation of the equipment with fossil-fuel based energy sources (indirect emissions). Reducing those emissions is important to reach the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Technical solutions exist for almost all RAC subsectors. They are very cost-efficient and therefore considered as “low-hanging fruits”. Therefore, it is crucial for countries to enhance their NDCs with Green Cooling solutions based on two principals: using natural refrigerants in combination with highly energy-efficient appliances and buildings.

Find out more about the topic in our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), publications and supporting tools, as well as in our regularly held NDC4 webinars.

Who Can Benefit?

The NDC helpdesk provides technical assistance to Global South countries, government agencies, and technical institutions and organisations working directly with national governments to plan and implement NDCs, provided they are endorsed by the national UNFCCC focal point or the Ministry of Environment.

The NDC Helpdesk (opens in a new window) is implemented by the global project Cool Contributions fighting Climate Change II (C4 II) (opens in a new window) and funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) as part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
