08.11.2023 News MOP35 Side Event: 27 years of Montreal Protocol implementation in Kenya
Kenya has made considerable achievements in the Montreal Protocol implementation: CFCs were completely phased-out in 2010, and they were followed by halons and methyl bromide. As replacements, natural refrigerants were introduced into the Kenyan market. What made these achievements possible? In the side event, Kenyan stakeholders and the implementing agency GIZ looked back to 27 years of cooperation, reflecting on the effectiveness of the different measures they have put into practice.

For this Cool Talk, we have had the opportunity to interview Ole Marius Moen, research scientist at SINTEF Energy Research. He has a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). From 2014 until 2020 he has held several positions, as engineer and later senior engineer in TechnipFMC, working mainly with process flow dynamics in subsea oil and gas production. In 2020 he started as a research scientist in SINTEF Energy Research, and his main field of competence lies in high temperature heat pump systems using natural refrigerants.

He began his career as an engineer 30 years ago and has always found manufacturing and its process fascinating. Almost 20 years ago he started FREOR LT, UAB, which today offers a complete range of commercial refrigeration equipment, including cabinets, serve-overs, and freezers, along with innovative, energy-efficient, and, most importantly, environmentally friendly cooling systems.

For this Cool Talk, we have had the opportunity to interview Tommy Scavone. Tommy has a bachelor in economics and marketing, and a master’s in international business management. He started working in the refrigeration industry when he started working for Rivacold in 2013. Within Rivacold, he worked for 8 years at the Italian HQs as Export Manager for the UK and Ireland areas, and as a project leader for the American Business Unit Start-up. Then after 8 years he relocated to the US in 2021, to become sales manager at Rivacold America which is responsible for the food retail segment and special applications throughout the North American region. Rivacold was established in 1966 as a supplier of condensing units and hermetic systems to manufacture refrigerated counters and cabinets. However, throughout the years Rivacold reached an important position as a manufacturer and distributor of components of refrigeration and air conditioning appliances.
