For this Cool Talk, we have had the opportunity to interview Tommy Scavone. Tommy has a bachelor in economics and marketing, and a master’s in international business management. He started working in the refrigeration industry when he started working for Rivacold in 2013. Within Rivacold, he worked for 8 years at the Italian HQs as Export Manager for the UK and Ireland areas, and as a project leader for the American Business Unit Start-up. Then after 8 years he relocated to the US in 2021, to become sales manager at Rivacold America which is responsible for the food retail segment and special applications throughout the North American region. Rivacold was established in 1966 as a supplier of condensing units and hermetic systems to manufacture refrigerated counters and cabinets. However, throughout the years Rivacold reached an important position as a manufacturer and distributor of components of refrigeration and air conditioning appliances.

This September, 18 instructors from different francophone African countries participated in the Cool Training - a training in the safe handling of natural refrigerants for international instructors and experts in refrigeration and air conditioning.

Natural refrigerants are the environmentally friendly alternative to refrigerants that deplete the ozone layer and cause greenhouse gas emissions. However, their use requires specific theoretical and practical qualifications so that technicians and even operators can work on refrigeration systems in complete safety.
27.09.2023 News Introducing highly energy efficient split R290 ACs in Ghana
In August 2023, 15 highly efficient Green ACs with ultra-low refrigerant R290 were handed to EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)-Ghana. The equipment has low impact on the environment and high energy efficiency. This donation is part of the training QCR component of GIZ’s project SE4C, which is financed by BMZ, implemented by Proklima.

From 4-8 September 2023, GIZ Proklima organized a study tour to China to encourage international exchange and share experiences on the production of energy-efficient R290 split-type air conditioning (AC). Representatives from government agencies and AC industry from Bangladesh, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam took part in the study tour.

On 11 and 12 September 2023 focal points of climate change, ozone and energy departments of national ministries of Botswana, Eswatini, Namibia and South Africa – meaning three focal points per country – met to discuss with GIZ and GFA Consulting Group the status quo and way forward of the Cooling Program for Southern Africa (CooPSA).

This webinar aims to shed light on the recent revisions made to the standards and their implications for the industry.
The revisions address crucial aspects to ensure enhanced safety and efficiency in the industry by now allowing a higher hydrocarbon refrigerant charge (per unit area of room size) to satisfy the required cooling capacity. Moreover, we will explore the addition of the newly included standards for reefers and road transport ISO 20854 and EN 17893. During the webinar, our expert Daniel Colbourne from HEAT will delve into the key updates made in the publication and be there to discuss and answer all questions regarding the update.
